Duluth Trading Cure Bowl Postgame Quotes

Troy Head Coach Jon Sumrall

“I’m proud of our guys for continuing to find a way. It wasn’t very pretty in the first half. After the game, my dad who is 74, said I’m glad to see you at the podium. After the first half, I wasn’t sure if you were coaching or not. So I’ve always got him to keep me humble. But these guys all year have continued to fight through all kinds of situations and circumstances and adversity. That was our 11th straight win after losing on a Hail Mary on the last play at App State. We were 1-2 at that point and then, we rattled off the last 11. I think it showed the character of our locker room.”

Troy LB KJ Robertson

On having his daughter at the game to see him play the first time:

“I really don’t know how to even explain it. She was born during COVID, so I didn’t want her at the games. Things happened and she wasn’t able to make it to any games even after that. But one thing I really wanted — win, lose or draw — was for my daughter to see me play one time. If she remembers it or not, I loved it. It was the best feeling in the world.”

Troy LB Carlton Martial

“That’s just our identity as a team – bend, don’t break. As long as we are out there playing for each other, as long as we have 11 hats to the ball. We are going to be fine. Hats off them to them, but I’m proud of our players and proud of our coaches.”

Troy WR RaJae Johnson

“The App State loss, I think that’s the loss we needed. It really brought the team together. That really sparked us to make this special run for a championship and a bowl win.”
